Pet-friendly Reykjavik

Reykjavik is a joy on foot. Bringing an animal into Iceland is a different project, with official rules that are strict for a reason.

Iceland protects its ecosystem with tight import controls. Quarantine, paperwork, and bans are not details to discover at the airport. Treat every TravelTail stay in Iceland as a place for pets who already live in the country, or as research you do only after you have read the current official import guidance.

If you and your pet are already local, the city is walkable and the weather is not. Towels, a real coat, and a plan that skips fragile moss are the difference between a good day and a miserable one. Geothermal pools are for people. Viewpoint stops and shore walks are the pet version of the Golden Circle, not the pools themselves.

Pet notes

  • Do not book an international trip here until import rules are clear.
  • Keep dogs off sensitive moss and nesting areas.
  • Weather turns. A lodge with a mud room beats a stylish loft with nowhere to dry a coat.
